They both tell the story differently, Ady likes to think that Eric came after her and Eric likes to think that Ady was the first to make a move. Both stories however, have one thing in common. They hit it off instantly. Ady's family has an Aztec Danza group and Eric's sisters were a members of the group! Their families grew to be very close because of Danza, but Eric and Ady never met until two years after (2004) his sisters, Daisy and Suly, joined the group. The group was performing at Eric's family church St. Miguel in Watts, CA when they finally met. After the performance, they had their first conversation inside the church's recreational hall while sitting on a bench. He was on the bench reviewing the footage from earlier on a video camera and Ady sat right next to him to finally meet the missing member of the Trujillo family. After that initial breaking the ice moment, whenever Ady and his sisters hung out at their house, Eric was around and so the rest was history.
And she replied
Ady's Quinceñera |
Almost a year later after meeting each other, ERIC had asked Ady out, on January 24 (also referred to as our ask-aversary) and got his answer on January 26 and she replied "Yes" (our anniversary)! Then came the scary part, asking Ady's mom for permission........................

It's a trap!
The day was tense, Ady was waiting for Eric to come to her house. She was a ball of nerves. Her mom was waiting for him in her office in the back yard. Eric finally arrives and Ady leads him to the office. She was asked to leave........ Ady and Adriana (her other mom) were anxiously waiting inside the house, periodically looking out the back door to see signs of life. After what seemed like hours passed by, the office door opens and out comes Josie and Eric. They are walking and casually talking to each other and heading toward the van.....Ady doesn't know what to think, "don't go Eric, it's TRAP!" Ady and her mom exchange confused looks and start making their way towards them. Ady goes to Josie and asks "where are you going?" and she says "to get water bottles..." then Ady asks "so what's the answer?" Josie mid step looks back and says "pos si" (well yes). Then Eric and Josie hop in the car and leave Ady and her mom even more confused.........

Orange Groves
The same fateful day of Eric and Ady's engagement was the day her thesis was due. She was working on last minute touches, and Eric wanted to take a break and go to a local park in Redlands that sits on a hill and watch the sunset. Ady was thought it was strange that even though she had work to do, he wanted to grab Subway for dinner and watch the sunset. Eric even tells her, "I want to take a picture so, comb your hair." So she actually brushed her hair, changed from her pajamas and into acceptable clothes. They head out to Subway and make their way to Prospect park, walk up the hill and sit on a bench taking in the sight that over looks all of Redlands and local orange groves. It smelled glorious, the scent of oranges and flowers filled the air. After they finished their dinner, they strolled around the park, waiting for the sunset to arrive. When it was getting to that time, they made their way back and stood against the railing and took a picture. The sun was starting to set as they posed for the camera. Eric was taking an awful long time to take the pictures and he was getting really fidgety. He finally stopped moving, pulled the ring out and got down on one knee. At this point Ady was already crying and in shock. He said a random speech, neither of them remember it, and asked "would you do me the honor of marrying me?" Of course Ady said yes! He got up and finished watching the sunset together.
Four graduations later
Two high school and two college graduations later, and here we are. Engaged to be married on May 17, 2014. On the day of our wedding, we will have been together for eight years and four months and been engaged for two years!
